I thought this was a pretty cool "Bees Eye View" picture of what we often encounter when working some of the meaner honey bees in Brevard County. They often will leave thousands of stingers in our suits, making our suits look like someone shook pepper over the suit! Look at the bee in the lower left hand corner!

We are encountering more and more 'mean' bees in Brevard, and we even have some neighborhoods noted with higher than average numbers of Africanized Honey Bees, meaning we have to practice very careful methods, so that we don't threaten neighbors and pets.

Here is a pic of just some of the honey and brood (bee babies!) that came out of a large beehive that had been in a Cocoa Beach house eave for a few years.

Notice the light colored honey and comb. This produced some of the finest tasting honey I've ever found in a Florida bee removal ever! I've often noticed that coastal bees make very good honey, however we don't find edible honey in most bee removals, as it often will sour and ferment within weeks in our humid environment.

The picture above shows what happens when a bee colony that is present inside a wall, is blocked in, by someone sealing up the opening that leads to outside. Bees will find a way out.. and if it's not an 'outside out', they will readily find small openings that lead into the interior of the structure. And when bees have been holding their, um.... or in other words, when they gots to go, they go! And go they went in this house.. all over the windows, furniture, floor. Not pretty.

Cocoa Beach Bee Removal: Massive Honey Bee Swarm

This is a treat, a real old fashioned primary swarm in Coca Beach Florida. It's a treat because we rarely see large swarms anymore as most of our feral or wild bees in Brevard county are now Africanized Honey Bees, aka Killer Bees.

Numbering well over 50,000 individuals, we elected to hive this swarm into 2 hive boxes. It's rare for us to perform live bee removals in Cocoa Beach, but this was almost certainly European Honey Bees, just because of the large number of individuals. In addition, the risk factor was minimal as this yard was surrounded by dense vegetation and was several hundred feet away from the nearest neighbor.

Cocoa backyard shed bee hive removal

Cool pic of bee hive comb removed from a Cocoa Beach backyard shed. This was probably an African ( aka Killer Bee ) colony. We have been finding LOTS of Killer Bees in Cocoa, and one thing that killer bees really like to do is build their nest close to the ground. So, they often will build under the shed floor, between the joists, usually gaining access through an abandoned armadillo or 'possum hole.
It's very important to remove the nest comb, or your WILL have another bee colony move in, and you'll have to deal with millions of beetle and fly maggots.
