Pinellas County Honey Bee Nest in Tree

Pinellas County Honey Bee Nest in Tree

We get many calls about Honey bee nests that are attached to tree branches and not inside a tree hole. Usually, these are Africanized Honey Bees( AHB or 'Killer Bees' in popular lexicon)

Such nests are dangerous if disturbed, or if they fall to the ground.and should be removed as soon as possible

closeup of honey bee nest on tree branch

The origins of wild honey bees found in Florida, are often comprised of Africanized Honey Bee sources. When a nest is newly formed it may be considered gentle and nearly non-defensive. But as the nest grows larger, the bees become more defensive and are often sonsidered 'mean'. We've had many clients experience mass stinging events when they are mowing, edging or some other activity that did not provoke stinging just a few days before. AHB can send thousands of Stinging workers to the percieved animal or human threat. Our European Honey Bees that are managed by beekeepers respond with only a few stinging workers

Whatever the name, they can pack quite a wallop of a sting, and removals should be left to the pros.If you come in contact with these stinging insects, call the experts.Contact the stinging insect specialists: Our staff consists of  graduate entomologists, registered beekeepers, Florida licensed pest control operators. Honey Bees in A Tree

The abundance of bees in florida is astounding, the other crazy thing about the bees is the variety of places they can build their nests. These Bees overcome Florida's harsh weather and build an external colony. This is in a treea nd can still attack people. Many of these nests depending on their height require a lift to remove, Then there is the maze of getting the lift at the perfect angle due to the branches. If you come in contact with these stinging insects, call the experts.Contact the stinging insect specialists, entomologists, beekeepers, licensed and insured. Swarm Removal in Palm Coast

We were doing our daily work in the City of Palm Coast when we came across a nice honey bee swarm on a Magnolia Tree.
Palm Coast Honey Bee Swarm

The neighbors were worried about the aggression levels of this swarm of maybe 10,000 bees so we were called for the removal. The bees weren't too aggressive but without the proper live removal techniques they could have hurt somebody. They were relocated to our apiary in Flagler County. If you come in contact with these stinging insects, call the experts.Contact the stinging insect specialists, entomologists, beekeepers, licensed and insured. Live Removal In Kissimmee

Live Removals aren't so common now a days due to the increased amounts of African Bees. These increased amounts, make it dangerous to save due to our calm European Colonies, and also for the sake of the people.
Kissimmee Live Bee Removal from Birdhouse

We did this nest because we were sure that it was european, and docile so we went with our gut to save this colony, also due to the bird box it was safe.

African Honey Bees Still Swarm

This is something that we see, or hope to see after we finish a job. We performed a bee removal from a water meter for the city of St. Petersburg, Fla. Africanized Honey Bees, aka Killer Bees or AHB, prefer to nest in or near the ground, and water meters are a very popular spot for them.

Saint Petersburg, Fl., Bee Removal from a water meter

After we perform the removals, we place a warning sign, and the bees clustered on the sign! Bees will cluster when their colony is disturbed, at least that's what 'normal' bees will do. They are simply regrouping and figuring out what to do next.

But here's the kicker: We are finding that many killer bees (AHB) will not cluster, instead, remaining aloft in a disturbed, defensive position. This makes our job of protecting the public and pets much more difficult, and YOUR choice of a suitable bee removal firm that much more important!

Honey Bees in Treeholes

Honey Bees really, really like to build nests in Tree Holes, the hollows that are in many of the larger trees in our landscapes. Ok, they probably don't "like" to build them, but tree holes are a natural, safe environment for honey bees and we find many pest colonies of bees residing in tree holes.
Bees in Merritt Island Tree Hole

Now, many of our clients would like us to do a live removal, and relocate the bee colony to one of our apiaries. It breaks some hearts when we explain that the only way one can do a True Live Bee Removal from a tree hole, is to cut the portion of the tree away where the colony is located and then cut that portion open to get at the nest. Most clients really don't want to remove their trees, so the only option available is  to terminate the bee colony.

Some might ask, "Why don't you leave the honey bee colony where it is? After all we are losing bee populations, right? Well, yes we've had increased mortality in our managed honey bees, those that we keep in white boxes. However, most of the bees we encounter in yards, buildings, etc., at least here in Florida, are not bees that we really want to keep in our white hive boxes. Most wild or feral bees have 'mixed-up' genetics, and make poor candidates for serious beekeepers. Worse yet, the numbers of Africanized (or African, or Killer Bees) are shooting through the roof here in Florida, with increases in bee attacks occuring. Trying live removals of feral bees located in or around humans is frought with danger and liability risk. It's something that we are doing less and less of every day.

And leave that colony in the tree, and odds are, as the colony increases in size, your risk for sting incidents go higher too. Daily, we field calls from folks who suffer stings from bee colonies that were very docile. Something happens to make the colony more defensive and POW!, your Saturday morning chores are put on hold as you spend the weekend in the hospital, recovering from an overload of bee venom. If you come in contact with these stinging insects, call the experts.Contact the stinging insect specialists, entomologists, beekeepers, licensed and insured. Orlando Bee Swarms

A colony of honey bees can be likened to an organism, and the prime directive of organisms is to reproduce--and that is what a swarm is!! Bee colony reproduction! An existing colony sends out maybe 20,000 workers, drones and the queen, to go find a new place to build a colony and thrive.

Usually, but not always, these swarms are relatively docile, and are transitory, meaning they will leave in a few hours. Please, don't provoke them into a stinging incident, by self treating yourself. Give us a call, and we'll help you determine if you should have us remove them. In most cases, you won't have to do a thing, but wave as they leave. If you come in contact with these stinging insects, call the experts.Contact the stinging insect specialists, entomologists, beekeepers, licensed and insured. Bees in a Tree in Ocala, FL

These Bees decided to not go with the normal "build your nest in a void" but instead to create an external honey bee nest. External honey bee nests normally arent so successful because it is more difficult to keep the temperatures correct and the bees are open to the environment.

Bees flying around plants in your yard?

Every Spring and summer, we get many people calling our lines, scared that they have killer bees because they are seeing thousands of bees, wasps, flies and other insects flying in and around their plants, visiting flowers and not exhibiting any coordinated group activity. We are not referring to 'honey bee swarms' which are different, and can be viewed here.

Honey Bee foraging on Flower

Normally when this happens the plants around your yard or garden are flowering. This is called "foraging". No fear here, the bees are not trying to find a new nest, and are not harmful so don't worry. If they are flying into your house then there may be a problem.

Think of it, many bees, wasps, flies and other insects are attracted to the nectar that flowers exude. In exchange for this high sugar flight fuel, the insect will inadvertently transfer some pollen between flowers, therefore helping to pollinate these plants. What could be more natural?

Though you may be intimidated by all the activity, my suggestion is to observe nature's splendor. The plant-insect relationship has taken millions of years to evolve, and it makes the world go round in one sense. In most cases the bees and wasps don't even notice that you are nearby. Once the flowers have finished providing the nectar, the activity will cease. And you've done your part in assisting nature.

Cocoa Beach Bee Swarm Removal

Here is a European Honey Bee Swarm, this is able to be easily identified as european by the quantity of bees. The African Honey Bees swarm more frequently, but in smaller groups.
Cocoa Beach Bee Removal Large bee swarm

This nest was relocated due to the fact we were almost 100% sure it was a safe and calm, also the house was in a remote area with neighbors over 100 feet away. With over 50,000 bees inside we had to use two hive box's to fit them all! It is nice to see the old school swarms still around, that are much more docile than African Killer Bee swarms. If you come in contact with these stinging insects, call the experts.Contact the stinging insect specialists, entomologists, beekeepers, licensed and insured. ABC Action News. Man Nearly Killed due To Africanized Honey Bees. Hospitalized for 6 days.

AllFloridaBeeRemoval.com and Insect IQ's Employee Jason Derringer Was featured on ABC Action news, This man suffered many insect stings because of the epedimic of the African Honey Bees. These bees are not the beneficial honey bees, they are killing machines and are programmed to defend and reproduce. Unlike traditional European Honey Bees the "good Bees" which are docile and beneficial. The Africans dont produce enough honey to be useful and are aggressive not only to humans but Pets and other animals. Please take caution and Call the experts at AllFloridaBeeRemoval.com

Don't try this!
This was a really good one. Our client was attacked by what he thought were ground hornets while mowing his lawn. Being the handy-do-it-selfer family man he is, he set out to take care of these pesky critters.
So, he first attempted to burn them out. set fire to the grass covering the nest opening and nearly started a forest fire! Next up was a week long campaign to dowse them with insecticide, which resulted in small reduction in population AND very angry bees. You see, these weren't hornets, but actually they were Bumble Bees!

Bumble bee nest opening

Bumble bees often nest in abandoned rodent burrows as seen here. They can number in the hundreds per colony, and can be very defensive girls, rivaling Killer Bees (African Honey Bees, actually), in the distance that they will chase victims. It's not unusual to receive 50 stings before one runs the several hundred feet to get away.

Listen, we are experts at the control and removal of Bumble Bees. Trying to burn them out or throwing can after can of bug spray doesn't work.

For less than the cost of an emergency room visit (or Fire damage), we will take care of your bee problems so you can rest easily at night.

Please, don't attempt a removal of bees, as they can be deadly, even swarms have attacked us since Killer Bees are now here. We've had fatalities occur in Florida because of improper stinging insect removal techniques.

Yellow Jacket Larger than Man

Don't Mess With These Yellow Jackets, Highly Dangerous

TAMPA, FL -
Jonathan Simkins is an expert in flying insects. He has a degree in entomology from the University of Florida, and has been working in the industry for more than twenty years.
Simkins is the owner of Insect I.Q.  He travels all over Florida to deal with honey bees, Africanized bees, yellow jackets and other stinging insects.
Recently, he faced the challenge of his life.
Simkins was called to a large, privately-owned tract of land in Central Florida to deal with a huge yellow jacket wasp nest.
"I have never seen a nest this large in my entire life," said Simkins.  "This is the prehistoric nest from the dinosaur ages."
He says the nest was more than six and half feet tall, and eight feet wide.  It may have contained more than a million insects.
"To put it into perspective, a nest we deal with on a day to day basis might have a thousand to five thousand," Simkins said.
Simkins shot his own video of the nest before he eradicated it.
As he approached the nest, the worker wasps attacked him and his equipment.
In the video you can hear hundreds of wasps hit the camera.  The buzzing is non-stop, and Simkins' voice is clearly tense.
"I have to be honest with you, I was terrified at one point, and there were several times that I had to pull out and get a breather. My heart rate was racing, I had hundreds of them on my veil," said Simkins.
He used a spray and his own technique to kill the entire nest.
Simkins says if someone had walked up to the nest unawares, and riled the wasps, they could have been killed..
"We definitely did save lives. This land is hunted.  It's leased out for hunters, if somebody comes across this, you're not going to get away.  You can see in the video, I run a hundred yards away and I sill have thousands of yellow jackets chasing me, all over me, trying to kill me," said Simkins.
The video ends the next day as Simkins walks up to the nest without his protective helmet on. Simkins stands next to the remains of the huge nest, and declares it dead.
