Don't try this!
This was a really good one. Our client was attacked by what he thought were ground hornets while mowing his lawn. Being the handy-do-it-selfer family man he is, he set out to take care of these pesky critters.
So, he first attempted to burn them out. set fire to the grass covering the nest opening and nearly started a forest fire! Next up was a week long campaign to dowse them with insecticide, which resulted in small reduction in population AND very angry bees. You see, these weren't hornets, but actually they were Bumble Bees!

Bumble bee nest opening

Bumble bees often nest in abandoned rodent burrows as seen here. They can number in the hundreds per colony, and can be very defensive girls, rivaling Killer Bees (African Honey Bees, actually), in the distance that they will chase victims. It's not unusual to receive 50 stings before one runs the several hundred feet to get away.

Listen, we are experts at the control and removal of Bumble Bees. Trying to burn them out or throwing can after can of bug spray doesn't work.

Bees Swarm in Tree in Ocala, FL

We can do live bee removals but when it comes to the hostility of the colony it gets difficult and dangerous to remove. We are recommended by the state to eliminate all wild colonies due to the chances of the colony being african and effecting other colonies in a bee yard. Also when relocating a nest is is required you find the queen and with African Bees they tend to leave and attack as soon as they signal a disturbance which makes it more difficult to get the queen. Many swarms also are on the lookout for a new home and could make a new home in your house, it is easier and cheaper to eliminate the problem early to avoid future hassles. If you come in contact with these stinging insects, call the experts.Contact the stinging insect specialists, entomologists, beekeepers, licensed and insured. Yellow Jackets in recliner

Brevard County Yellow Jacket Nest
Sit down in this Laz-Boy recliner and you'd have a heck of a buzzing surprise!

A colony of Southern YellowJackets, Vespula squamosa, decided to make their nest inside this recliner. Amazingly, this is very common, as the interior of most upholstered furniture has very large voids, providing perfect refuge in which to raise young, and to defend. If you look closely, you can see several openings that these wasps have chewed open, and surrounded with a paper like substance that they manufacture from tree barks.

Tampa Yellow Jacket Nest Removal

Above is a photo of a yellow jacket nest in Tampa. The yellow jacket build their nests underground and grow very rapidly. This nest alone had nearly 10,000 yellow jackets! We get many calls throughout the summer about yellow jackets and it would have continued to grow as the months went by! A "do it yourself" solution isn't recommended, like wasp freeze, and gasoline. These methods could lead to serious injury. Bees in Chic Fil A Sign

A-lot of our stinging insect work consists of bees, especially African Bees. They tend to create their nests in hollow voids. In Kissimmee Florida this nest was built in the hollow pole of a chic fil a sign. We had to acquire a lift to do the correct type of treatment. If they sprayed this with general pestecide this could cause a mass stinging around this area.. Water Meter Bee Removal in Orlando

Orlando Honey Bees in Water Meter

Honey Bee comb from water meter
The african honey bee has become a major problem in florida and is rapidly spreading.

African honey bees have a tendency to rapidly build their nests in small meter boxes. For example this colony in an Orlando meter box is a fairly new colony but has already accumulated 10 pounds of brood(immature bees).

In this colony very little honey was found, this is a common question because bees are supposed to make honey, right. Well the african colony is different not only in their aggression but also in their building nature, they produce mostly brood, which is the larvae stage of the bees and not as much honey, therefore they have more soldiers for there vastly growing army.

Close up of larvae, pupae, honey, nectar in comb

  • This is the developing brewd which will emerge in a few days into fully grown adult bees. Multiple times a year the bees will swarm and look for new places to expand their colony and they due this rapidly which is a direct cause of the problem we are facing with the African "killer" Bee today.

Please, don't attempt a removal of bees on your own. They can be deadly, even traveling african honey bee swarms have attacked us with no reason to be threatened. We've had fatalities occur in Florida because of improper stinging insect removal techniques. We perform bee removals for the state of Florida.
