This is a real treat, a HUGE External Honey Bee Colony located on a tree trunk in Leesburg, Fla.

It's not everyday we find such large bee colonies, so we took a few pictures to show you the beauty of the comb sructure. Note how dark the inner plates are, that's where the bee colony concentrated the bee 'nursery', laying eggs and raising the young, or brood of the colony.

Boy if these pics don't fit the bill..Here we are treating a Honey Bee colony residing in a Gotha or Windermere Fla., cemetery. The storm clouds were rushing in quick, lightning off in the distance, and a mean bunch of Africanized Honey Bees, (aka Killer Bees or AHB) were not happy that we were depopulating the colony.

Honey Bees really, really like to build nests in Tree Holes, the hollows that are in many of the larger trees in our landscapes. Ok, they probably don't "like" to build them, but tree holes are a natural, safe environment for honey bees and we find many pest colonies of bees residing in tree holes.

Now, many of our clients would like us to do a live removal, and relocate the bee colony to one of our apiaries. It breaks some hearts when we explain that the only way one can do a True Live Bee Removal from a tree hole, is to cut the portion of the tree away where the colony is located and then cut that portion open to get at the nest. Most clients really don't want to remove their trees, so the only option available is to terminate the bee colony.

Some might ask, "Why don't you leave the honey bee colony where it is? After all we are losing bee populations, right? Well, yes we've had increased mortality in our managed honey bees, those that we keep in white boxes. However, most of the bees we encounter in yards, buildings, etc., at least here in Florida, are not bees that we really want to keep in our white hive boxes. Most wild or feral bees have 'mixed-up' genetics, and make poor candidates for serious beekeepers. Worse yet, the numbers of Africanized (or African, or Killer Bees) are shooting through the roof here in Florida, with increases in bee attacks occuring. Trying live removals of feral bees located in or around humans is frought with danger and liability risk. It's something that we are doing less and less of every day.

And leave that colony in the tree, and odds are, as the colony increases in size, your risk for sting incidents go higher too. Daily, we field calls from folks who suffer stings from bee colonies that were very docile. Something happens to make the colony more defensive and POW!, your Saturday morning chores are put on hold as you spend the weekend in the hospital, recovering from an overload of bee venom.

One of a honey bee colony's favorite locations to build a nest, is in the interior of trees. Most larger trees will have a hollow core, and it's a perfect, safe and insulated place to set up shop!

Why are water meters becoming the to-die-for bee crib of choice? Killer Bees, that's why!

You see, Killer Bees (African, Africanized Honey Bees, or AHB) are simply a different sub-species, or race of the Honey Bee, Apis mellifera. Yes these are 'kissin cousins' of the gentle honey producer races of honey bees that we keep in our white boxes.

Killer Bees are now spreading throughout Florida, and they seem to really like living close to the ground. (Ok, I am anthropomorphizing here, just a bit :-) ). Our nice honey producing races of Honey Bees almost never would inhabit such a small ground dwelling, prefering instead to live in places such as the voids of trees, walls of abandoned buildings, etc.

So, we can almost chart the spread of Killer Bees, by the number of water meter jobs we perform, and we do see much higher numbers the further south we go in the State. Right now, we are seeing Killer Bees as far north as Ocala, despite what is reported 'officially'..

Please, while it may seem like a good idea to perform live honey bee relocations from water meters, we find that these bees usually turn mean as fire as the colony matures in our white hive boxes. So, we usually eradicate these colonies, as the liability for a city utility is very siginificant and for a sting sensitive individual, only one sting is necessary to cause a fatality.

Natl. Honey Bee Appreciation Day 2011

This is a treat, a real old fashioned primary swarm in Coca Beach Florida. It's a treat because we rarely see large swarms anymore as most of our feral or wild bees in Brevard county are now Africanized Honey Bees, aka Killer Bees.

Numbering well over 50,000 individuals, we elected to hive this swarm into 2 hive boxes. It's rare for us to perform live bee removals in Cocoa Beach, but this was almost certainly European Honey Bees, just because of the large number of individuals. Here is a typical scenario we find in Florida. Honey Bees, ( including "Killer Bees" ), move thru a small wall opening and start building a nest inside the wall void. Homeowners see the activity and start spraying the nest, and either make the bees very, very mad, or kill some of the bees. In both cases the colony usually persists, albeit with some damage and possibly stings to homeowners or neighbors, or even pets!

Now what makes this even worse is that now that the colony is weakened, other insect opportunists move in and start consuming the honey and pollen that resides inside.This activity is simply the worst that can happen, as these maggots (mostly fly and beetle larvae), will quickly turn what could be hundreds of pounds of honey, pollen and other organic materials into a rotting, fermenting, viscous soup, coating the interior void and forever making that area a beacon for new bee infestations.

Queen cells are special pupal cells designed by bees just for raising queens. Queens are raised to replace a queen that either flies away with a reproductive swarm, is injured or is not producing eggs well enough for the colony's liking. The colony will produce several of these peanut-shaped cells, and orient them in a vertical position. Upon emergence, the first queen will seek out the others and if her sisters have not emerged, will sting them to death! If there are multiple emergent queens, they will seek each other out by 'piping', and fight for dominance of the colony. No love lost in the bee world!

Gainesville Bee Control: 40 feet up in a Tree!

Sometimes we are called to scenes that are almost out of a movie, where folks get stung so badly by bees, that it's by stroke of luck that they survive!

The photo above illustrates one such event last summer in Gainesville, Florida. Tree surgeons were cutting down trees in a residential backyard and rope climbing in the trees when a honey bee colony located in the trunk of one tree was disturbed by the activity nearby. A climber was attacked by the honey bees, so badly that he couldn't yell down to his support crew, for all the attacking bees getting in his mouth, nose and ears.

Ocala Bee Swarm in our Bee Yard

We still perform some Live Bee Removals, even though the State apiarist, Jerry Hayes, recommends eradication of feral bee colonies because of the large proportion of Africanized genetics in wild bee populations. Our protocol demands us to requeen these colonies, so that the genetics of the colony will be changed to European Honey Bees, resulting in much more gentle bees.

Africanized Honey bees are notoriously difficult to re-queen, and sometimes the colony will fly away as we are introducing a new queen. We call this behavior 'absconding', and it's a trait of AHB that is undesirable for beekeepers. The picture below is of an absconded colony, that left one of our bee yards located near Ocala, Florida.

Windermere Bees in Attic!

If you've read our blog here at ALLFloridaBeeRemoval.com, you know that we write about the behavioral differences seen between the more defensive Africanized Honey Bees (AHB), and the mostly gentle European Honey Bees (EHB). One more interesting difference we see is in nesting site selection. Most EHB prefer to nest in enclosed spaces or voids, that simulate their natural nesting sites, hollows of trees, with small openings. These protected voids make it much easier to pack away honey and pollen bee bread for the cold winters.

AHB will build ANYWHERE!!! and we've seen a much higher proportion of nests being built inside attics, and often in attics that are very large with much cubic volume. AHB readily build external nests, hanging off of trees and such, so an attic is not much different. Take a look at this Windermere Honey Bee nest that is built inside of an attic:

For many folks who don't work with the 'testy' Africanized Honey Bees, (AHB), the defensiveness and resulting stings are quite a surprise. Once aggravated, AHB can maintain a defensive posture for days, harassing and stinging anything that moves within hundreds of feet. Because the liability to property owners or managers is significant, we always place warning signs, with the intent to inform the public and passer-bys of the sting dangers.

Honey bees live in a harmonious social structure that swells to maybe 50 THOUSAND adults during the spring blooming season. When colonies are bursting at the seam with such numbers, a swarm response occurs, where up to about half the colony's members will leave the nest in a coordinated issuance, flying around the nest area. The queen is coaxed to leave as well and the whole group is herded by a dedicated corps of 'scouts', that guide them to a new location to build a new colony.

The sight of this swarming behaviour is frightening to many, but if one stays quiet and moves little, one can observe a wonder of the world, for it still entertains and sets this seasoned entomologist to wonder. Largo Bee Removal - Huge Yellow Jacket nest in Palm Tree

Yellow Jackets are social wasps that, here in Florida at least, can construct nests that span several feet. One such nest we were called to was located in the City of Largo, Fl, in a palm tree about 25 feet up, and had been stinging folks that passed nearby. Pinellas Park Bee Removal - BIG External nest!

Oldsmar Bee Removal from Children's Playhouse

And yet another Africanized Honey Bee (AHB or Killer Bee) trait that we are documenting here in Florida, is the high number of AHB colonies that are built in or close to the ground. One of the most common locations near ground, is under the floor boards of children's playsets. Here's a pic of a typical Killer Bee infestation site from Oldsmar, Florida.

These nesting locations are particularly worrisome, as these bee colonies can be extremely defensive, increasing the sting risk for humans and pets that are nearby and of course, the humans that use these play sets are usually children, who cannot tolerate many stings from bees or other stinging insects.

Here is a photo closeup of the nest itself. Note that this race of the Honey Bee can build nest material in very small spaces. They readily defend the nest, often with thousands of bees, and can overwhelm a child in moments.

Jacksonville Bee Swarm moves into a wall

Springtime means Bee swarm season, and what you see in the picture below, is a Jacksonville honey bee swarm that has decided to move through a wall and under a tub surround.

This is a very common occurrence, and it sure helps to call us very soon, as if you leave the bee colony do it's thing, you could have hundreds of pounds of honey, bees, wax and pollen, that becomes a BIG problem.

This pic shows how we cut through the wall, and into the void under the tub, where we removed the swarm and applied a residual insecticide that will thwart future bee swarms. It's an easy fix for the homeowner, to install an access panel that will allow inspections and access for things like plumbing fixtures under the tub. Notice how clean our cuts are and how we remove all bees, so the sting risk is minimized.

We are also licensed by the State of Florida as Certified Pest Control Operators, meaning we can legally remove pest honey bees from and around your structure. You will find folks that claim to be beekeepers, and are performing this work. Our advice is to run quickly from these folks, as you are afforded no protections should something go wrong. Honey Bees often will build nests within homes and other structures, and this is a prime example. These bees built their wax nest above the master bedroom ceiling in an attic void.

Here is the important thing to consider... This is the 4th Bee infestation found here in 3 years!! Yep, the client had pest control companies treat repeatedly, without ever removing the nest or sealing up the entries in a proper fashion. The client suffered the typical problems after these 'drive-by' treatments.. maggots falling from the attic into bedrooms, rotting, fermenting honey smell and more. This is exactly why we exist.. to properly handle infestations such as these, so that you never have problems again.

Also, we are seeing many Killer Bees in Merritt Island now. (Let's call them Africanized Honey Bees, or AHB). This is something that we see, or hope to see after we finish a job. We performed a bee removal from a water meter for the city of St. Petersburg, Fla. Africanized Honey Bees, aka Killer Bees or AHB, prefer to nest in or near the ground, and water meters are a very popular spot for them.

Ocala "On Top of the World" Bee Removal

Honey Bees infest a pallet in Ocala, Fla, near On Top of the World Community. We are seeing many more bee infestations in this area of Marion County, and perform bee removals here very frequently. Most swarms can appear dangerous, with thousands of flying bees during the time when a swarm is either landing or taking off for permanent digs. In most cases, swarms are not very defensive, though I wouldn't advise spraying them or doing the teenage boy thing--throwing rocks at them!! If you just leave them alone, they will usually leave within hours.

Kissimmee GIANT External Honey Bee colony!

Some of the most interesting bee removals we perform are with external honey bee colonies. These used to be very rare, as the gentle European Honey bees that have been residents for over 300 years in the U.S., really prefer to build their nests within voids, such as tree holes and in building walls. However, as the Africanized Honey Bee, (AHB), has been spreading throughout Florida, we are encountering many, many more of these beautiful, but potentially deadly colonies.

This nest stretched over 4 FEET Long!, and was extremely defensive. We were hoping to perform a live removal and relocation with this nest, as it's located in a large, unpopulated ranch, however, these bees were so, so mean, that we had to eradicate them.

Oxford Fl., Africanized (?) Honey Bees in pole on Ground

This year we've had a spike in bee removal calls from near Oxford Fl., just west of The Villages, in Central Florida. What's disconcerting to me, is the proportion of these bees that exhibit Africanized Honey Bee (AHB) behaviors.

AHB, as many folks know, are a hybrid of a European subspecies of Honey Bee, and an African Honey Bee, Apis mellifera scuttelata, and has been present in Florida for probably about 10 years. These bees are moving north throughout the peninsula, and often exhibit a more defensive posture. ( in other words, they can sting the fire outta you, family and pets!).

One of the other cool behaviours, is their propensity to live near or in the ground, a place few self-respecting European Honey Bees would even consider! So, water meters are often the first in ground nesting locations that we find, and then voids, such as these poles have, are soon filled with a nest of very feisty bees!

These were moderately defensive, and readily hassled neighbors that insisted on getting too close to the removal process. They quickly (and loudly) ran away!

Help! I have thousands of bees flying around my bushes!

Every Spring, we get loads of folks calling our lines, scared outta their wits because they are seeing thousands of bees, wasps, flies and other insects flying in and around their plants, visiting flowers and not exhibiting any coordinated group activity. We are not referring to 'honey bee swarms' which are different, and can be viewed here.

When we question to get more information, we always find that the plant is flowering, and the flowers are attracting the insects! Now to an entomologist, this is very normal, and nothing to fear, so I'm here to allay your worries. If you see these lovely insects, flying around the plant, visiting flowers, and generally not paying any attention to you, you are witnessing a natural phenonemon we call 'foraging insects'.

Think of it, many bees, wasps, flies and other insects are attracted to the nectar that flowers exude. In exchange for this high sugar flight fuel, the insect will inadvertently transfer some pollen between flowers, therefore helping to pollinate these plants. What could be more natural?

The plant-insect relationship has taken millions of years to evolve, and it makes the world go round in one sense. In most cases the bees and wasps don't even notice that you are nearby. This nest is a beauty, about 15 feet high, and 7 plates wide. It looks like the colony swarmed recently, as you can see much of the comb material. In a couple weeks, it will be covered with bees once again.

The swarm alighted in the boat's battery box when it was at a St. Cloud trailer repair facility. Both St. Cloud & Kissimmee are home to vibrant populations of Africanized Honey Bees (AHB), which swarms at a much higher rate than it's European cousins, the European Honey Bee.

Swarms will land and try to setup a new colony just about anywhere, and this void in a battery box is just right for the budding colony to start. Winter Park Ground Bees: I have hundreds of bees flying close to the ground!

Spring is the time of year for bees and wasps to really crank up their activity, and mating is almost first on the agenda! One of the earliest bees we start getting calls for during early spring are a group of bees we call 'ground bees'. These are several groups of bees that build nests in the ground, and are largely non-social, meaning each female digs her own burrow, provisions cells inside with pollen and nectar, and lays eggs within. The eggs hatch, the larvae eat the stored food, and develop into adults, all underground several feet, and emerge sometime the following year, or maybe in the fall

Often, we will find hundreds of these burrows, while they look similar to ant mounds, these have a larger hole, and not bee activity.

These are really cool bees, and I usually can lay down amongst the hundreds that are flying at grass-top level, photographing at will, with nary a sting. So, control of these is often not needed, however, we do have treatment protocols established for folks who are sting sensitive, or for high traffic public areas where the sting risk is a concern.

Gainesville Bees in a wall - a "Chert" Wall !

Here's a cool one -- Gainesville has about 150 historic homes that were built with the locally mined limestone, called "Chert", which makes for a very distinct architectural style. It also can make for a very bee-friendly wall as there are many small openings that bees can gain entrance to the wall void that exists behind the rock.

This week, we have been getting loads of Bee Swarm calls in the Greater Orlando Area. It's always the same, late winter is very slow for us, but we try to prepare for this phenonemon we call "Swarm Season", which can start any day from Mid-February thru Early April. Bees will start swarming sometime during this period, and once they do, it's Game ON!, with us recieving hundreds of calls a day!

A colony of honey bees can be likened to an organism, and the prime directive of organisms is to reproduce--and that is what a swarm is!! Bee colony reproduction! An existing colony sends out maybe 20,000 workers, drones and the queen, to go find a new place to build a colony and thrive.

January 2011 has started relatively warm and moist which can be a signal for Honey Bee colonies to split and send forth a new 'seed' colony. We call these swarms, and used to see them in the Spring, when conditions are favorable for new colony growth. A honey bee swarm moved into the architectural column a few days ago and immediately set forth collecting food for the larvae that will soon be developing. We elected to eradicate the colony, as we are seeing some really nasty bees in this area. In fact, we heard that several golfers were stung at a nearby course, after live removals were performed on bird nesting boxes, and the boxes were Several Hundred feet from the golf course!

Usually by this time of the year (End of December), most Hornet nests are inactive, as freezing temps will kill the workers and the next generation of reproductive females fly off to find a nice log to hole up in for the winter. But there are exceptions!

We recieved a call from a Marion county racing horse farm that had encountered a massive Yellow Jacket nest while workers were clearing a fence line. West Melbourne external bee nest

We've been seeing more bees in Melbourne and Brevard County that are suspected African Honey Bees (AHB), or Killer Bees. One of the characteristics of AHB is that they build these kind of external comb nests much, much more readily than their European Bee cousins.

Mt. Dora Yellow Jacket removal

Daytona Beach Yellow Jacket Nest Removal with Queen and Eggs!

Got lucky on this photo. I had just removed a Southern Yellow Jacket (Vespula squamosa), from an apartment hedge, and was taking some pics. The Queen was positioned on the outside of the nest material, and just above her are 2 eggs freshly laid in cells! I shot this with my Iphone camera, using available light.

Rarely can I see Yellowjacket eggs laid in the cells. And to get this with my Iphone, well, just wow!!

Anyway, this nest was threatening Apartment residents, so we were called to remove it properly, meaning we minimize the flight activity of these very defensive wasps, during and after our treatment and removals.

Maitland: Mean Bees in Tree forces road closure

One of the ways we can track the movement of African Honey Bees (AHB), aka Killer Bees, is by the nesting locations of service calls we receive. When we get a call where bees are nesting in a water meter, the probability if very high that these bees are AHB, and appropriate caution is advised, as this subspecies of Honey Bee can get very defensive, threatening people and pets.

What's really concerning me is the frequency of UNLICENSED operators attempting removal of these bee colonies. This photo shows a Honey Bee nest in a Villages water meter that a lawn care operator attempted to remove. He tried spraying alcohol on the bees, and when that didn't work, just left, leaving the lid open to robber bees from other bee colonies, which can make bees very, very defensive, leading to mass stinging events.

To top it off, he wanted to charge the client $100 for the removal. He's not licensed as a pest control operator, doesn't carry insurance, and put the homeowner at risk for a death or injury from a bee sting. Remember, many people are so allergic, that one sting can kill.

Apopka water meter honey bee removal

fAfrican Honey Bees, aka Killer Bees, readily build colonies near ground voids, and water meter boxes are a very common location for them to build nests.

We've been seeing a growing population of African Killer Bees in Apopka for a couple years now, and perform water meter bee removals for many water utilities and municipalities throughout Florida.

Summerfield Fl Yellow Jackets in a wall!

We have 2 species of Yellow Jacket wasps here in Florida, and both of them prefer to build their nests in the ground, but on occasion, we find them in many other places.

This photo shows the paper envelope coming out from behind a phone junction box. The yellowjacket nest is located in the block wall, residing in the voids of the blocks. The client had been stung and her Air conditioning service technician had been stung as well, so it had to be taken care of quickly.

We have a protocol that involves drilling small holes in the blocks, locating the nest, and using pressure delivered expanding pesticide to completely cover the nest. We seal everything up and give a good long warranty.

Oviedo Bee Removal

Jacksonville: John Whittet was investigating a snake sighting in his backyard, when he was startled by hundreds of YellowJacket wasps. Within seconds they were covering his arm and attacking his face.
John's motorized wheelchair became stuck in sand as he tried to exit the area. He said to himself, " Oh Lord, this is going to be it".

Alachua Yellow Jacket Nest Removal

We received a call from a client in Alachua, one of the most beautiful towns in Florida! But alas, her beauty was being interupted by nasty, defensive YellowJacket wasps, who had decided to build an underground nest right in her front yard. She and her son had been stung and she needed the nest removed properly!

I was able to excavate the nest after treatment, and show you how cool these yellow jacket nests are. They are protected by an envelope of 'paper' that the wasps make from tree bark and saliva. The envelope protects the nest from water and other liquids, so if you try to pour hot water or gas down the hole, it usually doesnt work!

Winter Park Live Honey Bee Removal from Birdhouse!

This is really cool... Honey Bees moved into a birdhouse in Winter Park, Fla., and ALLFloridaBeeRemoval.com came to the homeowner's rescue to perform a live honey bee relocation.

Now, African Honey bees, aka Killer Bees, really, really prefer smaller voids such as bird houses, feeders, wildlife nesting boxes and the like, so it's quite probable that these are African. Tavares Yellow Jacket Removal

This is a Vespula maculifrons nest, aka the Eastern Yellowjacket. We don't see too many of these species of Yellowjackets in Central Florida, instead we see their cousin, Vespula squamosa, the Southern Yellowjacket, which can attain huge nest sizes of over One million individuals!

The Eastern Yellowjacket nests stay relatively small, maybe getting to the size of a large watermelon at their largest. They only have one queen per nest,which limits the reproductive output, hence the nest size as well.

This one was maybe the size of a large softball, but still had plenty of firepower, as I suffered a few stings myself!

Here's a photo (sorry for the low quality - it was hot and I had to move fast) of a recent Titusville Honey Bee Removal we performed. What you are seeing is the bee nest in the wall, after I removed the plywood wall covering. The nest stands over 5 FEET tall!.

These bees had gotten very testy, stinging lawn care folks every week as they tried to mow. Eventually, they refused to mow and had the client call us to perform the removal. We are seeing more and more stinging events occurring in Titusville and the rest of Brevard County.

Folks, we have African Bees in Titusville now. These are the famed, or infamous, Killer Bees, and they should be respected. Please don't try spraying them with Wasp and Hornet spray. Clients tried to do a self treatment of this very large Yellow Jacket nest, located in pampas grass adjacent to their neighborhood street. They were unsuccessful in eradication this YellowJacket colony, but were most successful in irritating the wasps and endangering the neighborhood, trash service, mail carriers and anyone else who may have come near the nest.

Ocala Honey Bees in Tree Removal

Most Honey Bees usually build their nests inside voids, such as tree holes, but sometimes they elect to build what we call "external" nests.
Usually, external nests fare poorly, as the bees find it difficult to maintain proper temperatures for rearing young bees, and to defend against marauding beetle, moth, fly, and competing bee pests.
African Honey Bees, aka Killer Bees, build external nests at a much higher rate, so if you encounter an external nest, the probability is that the nest is an African or Killer Bee nest.

This bee nest weighed ~ 75 pounds!

This photo shows me next to the honey bee removal I did today. It was located near the Florida Greenspace park in Ocala, and had been there at least 2 years.

Honey Bees, both European and African, aka Killer Bees, issue swarms from existing bee nests either as a means of colony reproduction, or possibly to help remove pathogens & parasites from the colony.

About 5000 Killer Bees under frond

One interesting observation we've been noting, is the increasing numbers of swarms during months when we shouldn't be seeing any, or at least few swarms. Take this swarm in the photo. It landed on a client's palmetto in Windermere, Fla., yesterday, Sept 8., way, way beyond the normal season of February to May.

Leesburg Yellow Jacket nest

This Leesburg Yellowjacket nest is a startling example of the real dangers that stinging insects represent.
Look at this photo. You'd agree that this nest is relatively small, as you can see my boot there on the left for size reference. Yet, this small Yellow Jacket colony nearly killed a Leesburg home owner, who was simply raising a flag in her backyard.

Nest was located in pampas grass

She was stung about 15 times, suffered an allergic reaction, and if not for her neighbor hearing her cries for help, would have died within minutes. Her blood pressure had fallen below 50 mm systolic. Paramedics arrived within 3 minutes and rushed her to the emergency room, where she was confined to hospital stay for about a week.
Her daughter called us to treat and remove the yellow jacket nest, and we checked her yard for any other nests.

Maitland Bee Removal from Owl Nesting Box

Every summer and early fall, we get lots of calls for honey bees that have taken up residence in owl or wildlife nesting boxes. Most of these turn out to be African Honey Bees (AHB) , as AHB prefer the smaller voids that these boxes provide.
In some select cases, we will attempt a live honey bee removal from nesting boxes. This was one such removal. More pics to follow and more story too!

This is the tree that the bees and nest box were in. About 23 feet high!

Here's the box just after we lowered it. Boxes full of honey bee nest can weigh over 100 pounds! We use a pulley to lower the box and nest safely. Bees and Ladders are dangerous -- Remember, we are licensed and insured, including Workmen's Comp, for your protection!

Here the box has been relocated to our quarantine apiary. I just removed the wire mesh and the girls are checking out their new digs.

Gainesville Yellow Jackets Tri-Fecta!

3 GainesvilleYellow Jacket Nests !

We were called out to a Gainesville apartment complex to treat and remove one Yellow Jacket nest that was located about a foot away from a walkway leading to an apartment entry. Upon arrival, I always take time to do a proper inspection, and boy am I glad I did!

I found not one, but THREE Yellowjacket nests within a 10 foot radius, and all were quite active. I always notify residents that are nearby, and it turns out that one of the residents is severely allergic to bee and wasp stings. So allergic that he has 7 epi-pens in his car and home, and once nearly died from ONE sting while on duty. (He's a Law Enforcement Officer).

This just highlights the potential dangers, liability and risk that we deal with on a daily basis, and our client was prudent in hiring us, as our first priority is the safety of people and pets.
